Today, Shelley Finlayson, OGE's Chief of Staff and Program Counsel met with world anti-corruption leaders in Hong Kong to discuss the role of public communications in government ethics and compliance programs. Ms. Finlayson discussed the constitutional roots of transparency and public oversight in the United States. She also explained OGE's role in making information available to citizens to allow them to make informed decisions about the efficacy of their Government. Ms. Finlayson detailed the efforts that OGE undertakes to help citizens, the press, and other interested stakeholders find the information they need to ensure that government officials are free from conflicts of interest. These efforts include publishing to OGE's website, communicating through social media, and making OGE's day-to-day work as transparent as possible.
Ms. Finlayson made her remarks at the 6thSymposium hosted by Hong Kong's Independent Commission against Corruption. The Commission was established in 1974 andfights corruption through law enforcement, prevention, and community education. Ms. Finlayson's participationin the Symposium continues OGE's contribution to the international dialogue on good governance.
